Salad Days
A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90)
I was the Director of Photography, Editor and producer on the film Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in the Nations Capital. The film covered the influential punk rock scene in D.C. during the early 1980’s to the early 1990’s. We interviewed all the major players, and even though I was part of this scene I learned a lot that I didn’t know. It was a very rewarding experience and also showcased a lot of my photography of the time.
It was a very personal project for me because I came up in that scene and, in a lot of ways, it shaped who I became. The D.I.Y. ethic gave me permission to follow my dreams of being a professional photographer. It opened my eyes to politics and protest, and I still draw on the lessons I learned from this period almost every day.
